In 2021, the total air transport market handled only about 16 million passengers. By 2024, that number had grown nearly fivefold, reaching more than 75 million passengers, according to baochinhphu.vn.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, an increasing number of travelers are choosing air transport as their preferred mode of travel. This demonstrates rising demand for international mobility and trade, as well as the positive role of aviation transport in contributing to Vietnam’s economic, social, and tourism development.
The agency stated that Vietnam’s international air route network has not only fully recovered but has also expanded—from 130 routes before the COVID-19 pandemic to 150 routes—connecting with more than 30 countries and territories.
Additionally, Vietnam has been studying and signing new agreements for direct flights to distant markets such as Europe and North America, laying the groundwork for future operations.
Furthermore, the domestic flight network has been optimized, with increased frequency on major routes. Airlines have also continuously opened new routes to destinations with high tourism potential.
