The volume of container cargo through Ho Chi Minh City’s port system continues to grow

The strong increase in vessel traffic and cargo volume reflects the solid recovery and sustainable development of economic activities related to seaports.

The total number of sea vessels and inland waterway vehicles passing through ports in the Ho Chi Minh City area reached 173,754 trips, up 10.59% compared to the same period in 2024. Specifically, domestic vessels saw robust growth, reaching 156,397 trips (up 10.93%), while international vessels also increased to 17,357 trips (up 7.67%). This overall growth rate of over 10% is a positive signal, reaffirming Ho Chi Minh City’s port system as a key hub attracting a large number of ships and ensuring smooth cargo supply chains.

A remarkable highlight is the record-breaking growth of container cargo. The total container volume handled reached over 16 million TEUs, equivalent to nearly 152 million tons. This significant increase accurately reflects the strong recovery and rising demand for import-export container transportation.

In addition, the total volume of cargo transported by sea reached nearly 185 million tons, up 7.28% year-on-year, while inland waterway transport reached nearly 75 million tons, an increase of 12.21% compared to the same period.

Total budget revenue from port activities in the first nine months exceeded 2 trillion VND. The strong growth in the number of sea vessels docking at Ho Chi Minh City’s ports during the first nine months of 2025 demonstrates the stability and sustainable development of the city’s seaport system in this new phase. With these positive results, Ho Chi Minh City’s ports are expected to soon enter the Top 10 largest container ports in the world.
