The French Navy cruiser Prairial, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Wallerand Faivre D'Arcier, is on a friendly visit to Da Nang City from November 14 to 19.

The visit of the French Navy ship to Da Nang aims to contribute to strengthening friendly relations and mutual trust, in line with the policy of promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and France, established in 2024.

Ms. Marie Keller, Chargé d’Affaires of the French Embassy in Vietnam, said that this stop of the French Navy ship is part of France’s Indo-Pacific strategy. The Indo-Pacific is a particularly important commercial shipping region. More than 50% of global maritime traffic passes through this area, and we share common interests in protecting the region’s sea lanes.

France’s strategy aims to maintain peace and security through respect for international law, especially maritime law, with the core being the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Lieutenant Wallerand Faivre d’Arcier, commanding officer of the frigate, said this stop is not only a break for the sailors but also a symbol of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

Prairial is the flagship of France’s Pacific fleet, based in French Polynesia, with a crew of 93 sailors. The ship was commissioned in 1993.

During the visit, the group of officers and ship commanders met with the leaders of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Military Zone 5, and Naval Region 3. In addition, officers and sailors exchanged professional expertise, participated in sports activities with officers of the Vietnamese Navy and Coast Guard, and visited local cultural sites.
