2. Determine the HS code of the vacuum cleaner
Determining the hs code is the most important step when carrying out procedures for importing vacuum cleaners. Identifying the HS code will determine the import tax, VAT and import policy. To determine the correct vacuum cleaner hs code, you need to understand the characteristics of the product: Material, composition and characteristics of the product.
2.1 Vacuum cleaner hs code
HS (Harmonized System) code is a series of codes that are common to all goods around the world. Between different countries in the world, there is only a difference in the number of tails. Therefore, the first 6 digits of the worldwide hs code for an item are the same. Here, Just In Time would like to share with you the vacuum cleaner hs code table.
HS Code |
Description |
85081100 |
HS code: Vacuum cleaner with a capacity of not more than 1,500 W and a dust bag or other container with a capacity of not more than 20 liters. |
85081910 |
HS code vacuum cleaner for household use. |
85081990 |
The hs code of vacuum cleaner has another electric motor. |
85086000 |
The hs code vacuum cleaner does not have an electric motor attached. |
According to the table described above, there are 4 hs codes of vacuum cleaners, applicable to four different types of vacuum cleaners. However, it can be divided into two types, namely hs codes for vacuum cleaners with electric motors: 85081100; 85081910; 85081990, and HS code of vacuum cleaner without electric motor: 85086000.
For vacuum cleaners with electric motors, they must check the quality of imported goods. Particularly, vacuum cleaners without electric motors do not need to check the quality of imported goods.
2.2 Risks of applying the wrong hs code
Determining the correct HS code is very important when carrying out procedures for importing vacuum cleaners. Identifying the wrong hs code will bring certain risks to you such as:

3. Calculation of import tax on vacuum cleaners
Import tax is considered as part of the cost that will have to be added to the cost of goods sold by the enterprise. Import tax is an obligation to the state that the importer must fulfill. Therefore, determining import tax is a very important step in the process of importing vacuum cleaners. There are two types of import tax, namely: VAT and import tax.
To determine the import tax and VAT of the vacuum cleaner. Please refer to the calculation formula below.
Import tax determined according to the import tax hs code is calculated according to the formula:
Import tax = CIF value x % tax rate
The CIF value is determined by the ex-factory value of the goods, plus all costs to bring the goods to the first border gate of the importing country.
Import VAT is determined according to the formula:
Value Added Tax = (CIF Value + Import Tax) x % VAT rate.
According to the above formula, import tax depends on the import tax rate. The import tax rate depends on the vacuum cleaner hs code selected above. In addition, as mentioned above, for goods imported from countries and regions with which Vietnam has signed trade agreements such as: Eastern Europe, Europe, the US, Chile, South Korea, China, Japan, Asean countries. Labeling in the right position will help save inspection time when carrying out procedures for importing vacuum cleaners of all kinds.
For retail goods on the market, it is necessary to show more information. Such as manufacturer, quantity of goods, specifications, date of manufacture, safety warnings.
4.3 Risks encountered when not labeling
Labeling goods is caught in accordance with the law. If the goods are not labeled when imported or the content of the goods label is wrong. The importer faces the following risks:
